GUSTAVUS DEFEATS SOUTHWEST BAPTIST UNIVERSITY 6-3

On Thursday the Gustie men's tennis team hosted Southwest Baptist University, the top ranked Division II team in the North Central Region.   They had traveled north from Bolivar, Missouri on their spring vacation trip. Gustavus opened the dual playing extremely well in doubles, raced to a 3-0 lead, and clinched the victory with strong singles performances from Aaron Zenner and Andy Bryan.

Then the match got very tough, as Gustavus lost three out of the last four singles matches against outstanding international players who all attend Southwest Baptist on full scholarships.  John Kauss continued his winning ways in an exciting close battle, but Charlie Paukert, Ben Tomasek, and Mike Burdakin suffered defeats.   The final score was 6-3, bringing the Gusties season record to 16-2.

Now the tennis team takes a short Easter recess before traveling to southern California for spring break matches against Pomona-Pitzer, Claremont-Mudd-Scripts, University of Redlands, and Azusa Pacific University.
