GUSTAVUS TENNIS TEAM RAISES $7,494 FOR AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY!
Thank you! Thank you! Because of your generosity the Gustavus men's
tennis team has set a new fund raising record! Less than a week ago
the fundraising total stood at $3,974, well short of the $6,450 total that we
had raised the year before. We sent out a last minute appeal on April 17.
What a difference you have made! Now our total stands at $7,494, more
than a thousand dollars higher than last year.
Again the Gustavus tennis "Relay for Life" team was the top Gustavus
fund raiser. The school raised more than $50,000! The grand total
will be announced sometime soon when all the checks are received.
Gustavus may be the top fund raiser in the nation for schools our size.
What neat accomplishments for both the tennis team and Gustavus!
Special thanks go to Matt Toppin, our team captain
who spent the whole night of April 18 participating in the Relay. Team
members who agreed to solicit at least $150 from family and friends included
Andy Bryan, Griffin Foley, Nick Hansen, Alex Horton, Eric Ice, Ashok Jethwa, Krishan Jethwa, David Koppel, Bjorn Olson, Kyle Olson, Kevin
Stickney, and Aaron Zenner. Everyone on the
Gustavus tennis team took their turns walking around the track in the Lund
Forum. There were at least two team members participating at all times
from 7 p.m. to 7:00. a.m. Music played, a choir
sang, two cancer survivors gave moving talks, and other survivors were featured
in a special victory lap.
Below I have listed the people who contributed and the people they wished to
honor or memorialize. Special luminaries with their names lined the
track, reminding the participants of the people we were honoring. If
there are any mistakes or omissions please let me know. I want an
accurate permanent record of the 2008 Relay for Life.
