GUSTAVUS TENNIS MEN WIN MIAC POST SEASON PLAYOFF

Gustavus beat St. Thomas 5-0 in the semifinals and Carleton 5-0 in the finals to capture its second consecutive MIAC post-season playoff.  The top six MIAC teams, including St. John's, Bethel, and St. Olaf participated in playoff action at Gustavus on Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26.

Until last year the spring season ended with a conference tournament that included all conference teams.  It played a major role in determining the MIAC title. Now dual matches alone determine the conference title, which Gustavus clinched two weeks ago with a 9-0 victory over Carleton.  In the last 39 years Gustavus has lost only one conference dual match.

The playoff title guarantees Gustavus a spot in the NCAA III championship.   Regional competition begins next Friday at a site to be determined on Monday.   The eight regional champions advance to NCAA III championship at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine from May 13 to 18.

Gustavus is the number six-ranked team in the nation with a ten-match winning streak.  Its season record is 27-5, including a national indoor championship and wins over #1 ranked Trinity University, #3 ranked University of California-Santa Cruz, and #7 ranked Emory University.
