GUSTAVUS TENNIS MEN WIN NCAA III REGIONAL

Gustavus beat Luther 5-1 in the semifinals and University of Texas-Tyler 5-0 in the finals to capture the NCAA III Regional hosted by Gustavus from May 2 to 4.  Other participating teams included the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Carthage College from Kenosha, WI.

The Gusties now advance to the NCAA III final eight in Lewiston, Maine, hosted by Bates College.  Their next match is Tuesday, May 13 against Washington University from St. Louis, Missouri.  Washington University is ranked #5 and Gustavus #6 in the latest poll.  The match will determine the number one team in the Central Region, a position held by Gustavus since 2000.  At the national indoor tournament in February Gustavus finished first and Washington University third.

In other national quarterfinal action on May 13 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from Claremont, CA meets Williams College from Williamstown, MA.  Emory University from Atlanta, GA plays Kenyon College from Gambier, OH, and Middlebury College from Middlebury, VT goes against University of Mary Washington from Fredericksburg, VA.
