GUSTIES DOMINATE DRAKE DOUBLES INVITATIONAL

Gustavus opened the fall season on September 21 in Des Moines, Iowa at the Drake Invitational.  Four Division I teams (Drake, Northern Illinois, Creighton, and South Dakota State) plus Division III Gustavus matched their top doubles teams. Three out of the top four teams reaching the semifinals were Gusties. 

In one semifinal Brian Livingston and Adam Ford from Northern Illinois edged Andy Bryan and Charlie Paukert from Gustavus 8-6.  In the other semifinal Mike Burdakin and John Kauss from Gustavus beat teammates Nick Hansen and Ben Tomasek 8-4.  In the final Livingston and Ford won 9-7 over Burdakin and Kauss, after being down one match point.  The service return skills of all three Gustavus teams were outstanding.

In the singles invitational Nick Hansen reached the semifinals of the "B" flight.  Burdakin and Paukert were "A" flight quarterfinalists, while Bryan and Kauss were consolation finalists.
