More than 1,200 Gustavus students have studied abroad from 2004-2007.

Gustavus Adolphus College has once again been ranked in the top 20 of the Institute of International Education’s Open Doors report for the total number of students who study abroad.

Gustavus was ranked 18th on the list of baccalaureate institutions, which considered data from the 2006-07 academic year. With 359 students studying abroad during that time period, Gustavus is one of six Minnesota higher education institutions ranked in the top 20. Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., topped this year’s list.

“Gustavus takes seriously its mission to develop globally and culturally engaged students. Through off-campus study, our students have the opportunity to earn academic credit and immerse themselves in another culture,” said Carolyn O’Grady, director of cultural and international education at Gustavus. “The knowledge and skills they develop have a positive impact not only on their future employment prospects, but also on their ability to think critically about the complex social problems facing our world.”

International study continues to be an important part of many students’ educational journey at Gustavus. According to the last three Open Doors reports, more than 1,200 Gustavus students have participated in study-abroad programs during that time span. Gustavus students engage in international learning through various programs in more than 100 locations throughout the world including Australia, China, India, and Sweden.
