Kendra Kesty
My name is Kendra Kesty and I’m in the class of 2011. I’m from North Bay, Ontario and haven’t yet decided between a Biochemistry or Biology major. Along with my advisors, Eric Elias, Dr. Nienow, and Dr. Carlin, I am studying this summer the effects of the pesticides dimethenamid, chlorpyrifos, and carbofuran, and their breakdown products from photolysis on aquatic organisms. The pesticides we are working with were found in low concentrations in water samples from across the Midwest. We are still determining their reactivity in different wavelengths of light and what each breaks down into. We have decided to use fat-head minnows (Pimephales promelas ) and zebra fish (Danio rerio) as model organisms to exposure to the pesticides.
