Course Description: A capstone seminar in which analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and integration are stressed.  Students are involved in a variety of applied projects and tasks during the directed teaching experience.  Issues and trends in education are examined, along with rules and standards for teacher licensure and advice for getting that first teaching job.  Requirements include the completion of the professional portfolio.  Prerequisite:  Admission to Professional Semester.

Course Content Includes:
  • Your experiences in student teaching.
  • Ethical considerations and legal rights and responsibilities of teachers.
  • Trends and issues in education.
  • Assessment of learning.
  • Application of previous learning to the directed teaching experience.
  • Integration of skills across disciplines and development of skills across different age groups.
  • Career counseling and support models.
  • The professional portfolio.
  • Other topics as needed.


Grading is Pass/Fail
Attendance:  On time arrival and attendance at all seminar meetings are required.

Participation:  Students are required to actively participate in small and large group interactions and contribute to course projects and activities.

Preparation for meetings: Completion of reading assignments and applied assignments is required prior to designated meetings.

FOR SEMINAR #3 (March 24)  Two more standards are due.
FOR SEMINAR #4  (April 21)  Three additional standards are due.
Final 2 standards due on May 8
 Arrange for delivery to your reader, as there is not a seminar on this date.
FOR SEMINAR #5   (May 19)
Final revisions for standards are due.
