Tiresias - the Musical

A Laboratory Production Directed by Amy Seham

For the first time on any stage, Gustavus presents Tiresias - the Musical. This collaboration between Theatre and Dance professor Amy Seham and recent Gustie graduate Chanda Walker is a comic exploration of mythology and gender roles. It follows the pre-Oedipal exploits of Tiresias, best known to theatre-goers as the blind seer in Oedipus Rex. As myth would have it, the Greek gods changed the youthful Tiresias from a man to a woman, and back to a man again. In our musical, Tiresias investigates the meanings of gender and identity in his.her entertaining encounters with such mythological characters as Echo and Narcissus, the Sphinx, Dionysos and his dancing Maenads, and many more. Be among the first to see this new musical in its laboratory production before it moves to Minneapolis, Broadway or - who knows - the Acropolis?
