Some
Web Sources of Information on Climate Change and Global Warming
An Inconvenient Truth
website (http://www.climatecrisis.net/)
The official website of the movie, this page contains background information on the movie and numerous ways to become active in the challenge to limit global warming. On an individual level, simple steps can be taken to reduce your personal carbon emissions. The simplest of these (as listed on the webpage) are:
1. Change a light –
replace a regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb.
2.
Drive less – walk, bike or carpool. Great ways to save money,
reduce emissions, or get some exercise!
3. Recycle more –
probably the most efficient way to reduce your personal carbon emissions.
4. Check your tires –
reduce emissions by improving gas mileage.
5. Use less hot water
– use low-flow showerheads and wash your clothes in warm or cold water.
6. Avoid products with
lots of (non-recyclable) packaging.
7. Adjust your
thermostat – ± 2 degrees makes a big difference in carbon emissions.
8. Plant a tree – soak
up the carbon from the atmosphere!
9. Turn off electronic
devices. . . and unplug them when they are not in
use! Leaving electronic devices plugged consumes
energy, even when they are not in use. Use
power strips to avoid the need to unplug multiple devices.
10. Air-dry your
clothes – dryer machines consume lots of energy, especially if they are poorly
maintained. Air drying saves money and
energy, and reduces carbon emissions!
Climate Crisis
Coalition (http://www.climatecrisiscoalition.org/)
Got questions about climate change? This site is updated regularly to provide information about climate change issues in the news and society. Subscribing to the Climate Crisis Coalition news feed is a good (and safe) way to keep current about developments in climate change.
Focus the Nation
(http://www.focusthenation.org/)
There are numerous climate change initiatives that strive to inform the public of the potential consequences of global warming. The goal of “Focus the Nation” is to ensure awareness among the American public of the critical state of Earth’s climate and to instill a sense of urgency about climate-change issues.
The Greenhouse
Network (http://www.greenhousenet.org/)
This site has lots of good information about clean energy
practices that can help reduce the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
and ultimately limit global warming. It
also maintains a schedule of public lectures and discussions on climate change

Carbon Calculator
(http://www.infinitepower.org/calc_carbon.htm)
This website, along with some of the webpages listed above, contains a worksheet that allows you to calculate your personal carbon budget, and offers some simple solutions to lowering your personal carbon emissions.
