First Fishing
Fishing is defined as the act of catching fish. People have been fishing for at least 40,000 years. A lot has changed since the first time people began trying to catch fish. At first people began trying to catch the fish with the use of spears and eventually nets. Fishing this way was very inefficient because the spears that they used took a long time to make and in order to spear a fish you had to get very close to it. A change in tactics was needed
Modern Fishing
The act that most people today consider fishing (with a rod, hook, and some fishing line) did not start until much more recently. This form of fishing is called angling. Another big change in the fishing world came when humans began to have enough time on their hands to begin to do activities out of sport rather than necessity. Relative to the long history of fishing, the sport of fishing is a very recent addition.
Commercial Fishing
Along with the sport of fishing came the first use of commercial fishing. The technological advances helped make fishing for commercial use a much more reasonable option. With the use of large ships and giant nets, modern fisherman can catch fish by the thousands instead of one at a time. All in all, fishing has come a very long ways since it's humble beginnings of the spear fishing days.
