GearIce fishing requires some gear that is specific to ice fishing, but you also need a lot of the same gear as fishing in freshwater. One piece of gear that is required for both is a pliers. You still are going to want to be able to get the fish off the hook as quickly as possible. Another item that you should have for both types of fishing is a tackle box. A piece of gear that you will want to have with you ice fishing is an auger. An auger is like a big drill that you use to put a hole in the ice that you can fish through. When you are ice fishing you also need a slightly different kind of pole. When you ice fish you need a shorter pole because you will mainly just be reeling straight up. The pole should also have a stand so that you don't need to be holding it the whole time. The last thing you should consider bringing with you when you go ice fishing is an ice house. An ice house is important when it is really cold or windy out because it can keep you warm and safe.
SafetyFishing can be a dangerous activity because of the sharp objects involved, the water, and often times the remoteness of the location that people fish in. On top of all of those things, ice fishing adds a whole new array of dangers that I will discuss in the link on the left.
TacticsThe tactics involved in successful fishing are shown in the "Fishing Tactics" link on the left.
