Current Research Activities

I am presently analyzing data collected in a study of clergy and congregations in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Episcopal Church.  My co-investigator is Dr. Paul Djupe, Denison University (and Gustavus class of 1993).  Click here for a summary of the project.  Our findings from the clergy segment of the project have recently been published in our new book, The Prophetic Pulpit: Clergy, Churches, and Communities in American Politics (Rowman & Littlefield Press, August 2003).  Our congregational research is being compiled for a second book manuscript, to be completed in the summer of 2005.

This project is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the American Political Science Association (APSA).
