POLITICAL PARTIES & ELECTIONS, FALL 2010
ONE LAST (BRIEF) EXCURSION INTO THE LACK OF CULTURE WAR
Fiorina, Culture War? Epilogue
Monday, December 13
10.1 Examine Table 11.2, p. 241. Are there any surprises in the issues near the top or bottom of this table?
10.2 Fiorina identifies four groups that Republicans need to win back: Latinos, young voters, independents, and former Republicans. He goes on near the end of the Epilogue to discuss different factions within the Republican Party and the ways they do and don’t fit well together.
With this in mind, what kind of candidate – or, if you want to get specific, which candidate – gives the Republicans the best shot of winning back the presidency in 2012? As part of your discussion, include consideration of the four groups Fiorina notes above – how can Republicans generate more votes among these groups?
