









































I was born in Germany,
- --where I graduated (Abitur) from the Werner Heisenberg Gymnasium, Heide/Holstein;
- --enrolled at the Christiana Albertina University, Kiel, Germany;
- --spent nine semesters studying English & American Lit. & Language, History, Philosophy, & Pedagogy; and
- --advanced to cand. phil. status, upon receiving the Philosophicum after seven semesters)
I decided to move to the US,
- --when Iwas awarded a Fulbright to The University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas;
- --where I earned an M.A. in English (thesis on Shakespeare's Monmouth Plays, directed by Charlton Hinman);
- --while serving as a T.A. in German, before switching to the Western Civilization Program as an Assistrant Instructor and, subsequently, Senior Instructor.
- --after transferring to The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM,
- --I earned a Ph.D. in English (dissertation onThe Icon of Mars in Coriolanus, directed by Franklin M. Dickey);
- --while teaching Freshman and Honors English courses as a T. A. and Instructor.
Upon earning my Ph.D., I accepted a position as
- --Assistant Professor of English at Gustavus Adolphus College, which
- --entailed moving to St. Peter, MN, in 1968;
- --where I have been professing Renaissance Literature, focusing on Shakespeare, Milton, and period courses developed around Sidney or Spenser, as well as Continental Masterworks of that time;
- --in addition to accepting the customary assignments in Composition, British Lit. Surveys, I have taught
- --Early Drama, Comparative Mythology, World Lit., Appreciation of Fiction or Drama, Criticism and Theory (before the latter became fashionable).
