Dedicated to Prof. Dr. Theodore Hoelty-Nickel

[This piece was to have been sung by the Thomanerchor from Leipzig for the 1000–year festival in LŸneburg in 1956, but due to the difficult negotiations between West and East Germany (printing, providing the choir with music from the West, etc.) op. 7 no. 2 was performed instead.]

This is BenderÕs first double-choir composition and the first piece to which he assigned an opus number.

Though composed in 1955, Bender first heard this piece performed in Chapel at Valparaiso on May 4, 1979. On the bulletin from that service, Bender also wrote "und Dr. Hoelty-Nickel hšrte es ebenfalls zum 1. Mal."

[The German version seems to have been lost]
