[Most of op. 3 is contained in two hard-bound manuscript books titled Klavierwerke I and Klavierwerke II. Inside the back cover of vol. I, at the top of Table of Contents page, the composer wrote:

Opus 3 No. 1

    Eine vergnŸgte Klaviermusik

         BŠrenreiter, 1949. BA 2071

         manuscript bound in Klavierwerke II

             12 piano pieces

Composed: 1936 (#1-6 in LŸbeck under Distler), 1938 (#7-12 in Aurich)

(The first six pieces were written in LŸbeck in 1936 and were appraised by Hugo Distler. He especially liked no. 2, whereas he found no. 3 decidedly inferior. Nos. 7-12 were written in Aurich.

This volume was printed (and paid for) just before the currency reform. Thus the terrible paper. It had hardly any preparation. A further failing is that the short pieces have no heading or titles. In May 1962, 1200 of the 2000 copies remained unsold.)
