     Accompaniment and variations for piano of 6 Dutch songs from the Nederlandtsche gedenck-clancken, a history of the wars between the Netherlands and Spain from 1555-1625, collected by Adriaen Valerius (publ. posthumously in Haarlem, 1626). The original publication (reissued in modern edition with the complete text and melodies in 1942) included many engravings and 76 popular songs.

     These pieces were written for the handbell choir which the composer founded at St. Severinkirche in Hademarschen (the first such group in North Germany!). He had purchased the bells in Holland for the church. [As of Nov. 1997, the group had been disbanded for several years and the bells were in Berlin at Matthias BenderÕs church.]
