Ol’ Dirty Bastard (R.I.P.)

The other co-founder opposite GZA, ODB found his fame from his humor and unique, somewhat crazy delivery.  When Dirt would spit a verse, he would half sing, half rap at the same time.  This distinctive sound and his fairly crazy antics produced a large and loyal fan base for the Wu-Tang member.

The two most memorable tracks that Ol’ Dirty released appeared on his debut album, Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.  The songs titled Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Brooklyn Zoo were instant classics.  The gritty production from RZA helped propel the album to gold status.

Unfortunately, ODB ran into trouble with the law and was in jail for numerous sentences following the release of his first album.  He was able to release his sophomore album, Nigga Please, in between jail stints in 1999.  The album was more absurd than his first and found gold status for the second straight time.

On November 13, 2004, two days before ODB’s 36th birthday, Dirty collapsed in Wu-Tang’s studio.  May Ol’ Dirty Bastard rest in peace.
