EDU 368 Interdisciplinary Teaching and Practicum



Purpose of this course:

The primary focus of the course is to provide structured learning opportunities for pre-service teachers to practice a wide range of teaching methodologies. EDU 368 also extends students’ knowledge base of information regarding interdisciplinary teaching and learning as well as an opportunity to hone these skills in a team teaching setting. In addition, EDU 368 provides opportunities to develop effective communication skills.


This course is blocked with EDU 350 and 351 to provide opportunities for applying concepts and skills learned in teaching situations. Please check the schedule for meeting times as they will vary within the two hour block based on the topics identified. The integration of EDU 350 and 351 is such that specific days are not identified for each course, but the two courses provide the content knowledge regarding curriculum planning and instruction as well as the opportunities to practice and reflect on developing teaching skills.

Materials:

• a video tape labeled with your name (long playing)
• a three ring binder to hold package and course materials
• a folder for turning in materials from microteaching

Learner Expectations:

Students will complete the learning tasks required for this course: Communication goals, Microteaching and practicum and participate in the classroom learning experiences that enable them to meet the standards embedded in these packages.

This course demands a high level of professionalism form all participants. You will be working in a micro teaching team and will need to have a high level of commitment to that group. Students should note in the performance package rubric, that failure to participate in any microteaching session will have a significant impact on the grade.

Grading: Based on meeting the standard using the rubric for the assessment tasks.
