Student Teachers
The role of the supervising teacher:
As your college supervisor, my role is to provide you with 'another set of eyes' in your classroom to help you identify your strengths and focus your learning. As your contact with the college, I can help you work with your cooperating teacher to maximize your learning.
I will schedule observations of your classroom at least once a week, and hope to see a variety of classes. I will jot down some of the things I see and hear in your classroom and I will share my observations and provide you will a copy of my observation notes. You and I need to keep the communication lines open during this time, and I will give you my cell phone number so that you can let me know if there is any schedule changes. My goal is to help you complete your student teaching with strong skills and a higher level of expertise than you had when you started.
Expectations for student teachers:
1. Student teachers are expected to complete all requirements for the student teacher seminar (including the portfolio) in a timely fashion.
2. Lesson plans are to be developed for all classes and your choice of methodology should reflect best practice for your content area and strive to meet the needs of all of your students.
3. When I am visiting you, please have your lesson plan for the day ready to go and your student teaching journal available at the start of the lesson. Following the observation, you and I and your and cooperating teacher (if they are available) will meet to share thoughts and feedback. Please think about when in your schedule we can plan this post observation discussion.
4. Please keep me informed of any changes in schedule or any concerns that arise during the semester.
