MCS 142: Introduction to Statistics

MCS-142: the College catalog's course description

Gathering, organizing and describing data, probability, random variables, sampling distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing, linear regression, and analysis of variance. Treatment is more mathematical than MCS-140, but the emphasis is still on applications. Introduction to the use of computerized statistical packages. Students who have already taken a statistics course may not earn credit for MCS-142.
Prerequisite: MCS-121 or MCS-131, i.e., Calculus I
QUANT: MCS-142 satisfies the Quantitative Reasoning of Area D:

Calculator

The required calculator is a TI-83 or TI-83 plus. If you do not have this model, please see if you can borrow one from a friend for the semester. There is one TI-83 on reserve in the library. In addition, the MCS department has several, which I hope to have available during classes when we use them and during examinations.
