MCS 342--Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics II--Midterm grading
Score = [(1/7)*Exam#1 + (1/14)*Quiz#1 + (1/7)*Homework]/[1/7+1/14+1/7]
- # absences in excess of two.
Thus, the midterm grade is based on only 1/7 + 1/14 + 1/7 = 5/14,
or about 36%, of the points possible in the entire course.
You have ample opportunity to improve in the second half of the semester.
By the same token, take care not to let senioritis or spring fever allow
you to coast downhill.
- Numerical scores were converted to letter grades according to the
exam scale
given on the course information pages.
- The quiz scores generally improved scores, as the middle 50% of
scores ran from 91 to 97.
- One point was deducted from the midterm total for each absence
after the 2nd.
According to the course information pages, the deduction could be
as much as 2.5 (percentage) points per absence.
(This is based on one class being 1/40 of the course.)
- An absence the day before or the day after a break counts double.
- In one student's case, the score formula was not used because of
unusual circumstances.
- The "file" problems and extra credit turned in 3/24 had not
been assessed by the midterm grades were due.
