MCS 342 Exam 4: Final Examination
- When: Monday, May 23, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
- What:
An examination consisting of problems
related to Chapters 8-15 of our text
(and possibly drawing on Chapters 1-7 [MCS 341])
- Where: Our classroom, Olin 319
- How: Open book and notes
The exam will consist of a selection of problems and questions on
topics we have covered.
Because of the limited time (two hours), not every topic can be
represented,
but you should review every major topic in order to be prepared.
Some routine application problems may have follow-up questions to
check your broader understanding of mathematical statistics.
TOPICS/POSSIBLE PROBLEMS
- Sampling distributions of statistics in normal sampling:
standard normal, t, chi-square, and F.
- Estimation, esp. confidence intervals
- Properties of point estimators and methods of estimation,
esp. maximum likelihood estimation
- Hypothesis testing: Handout steps 0-4
(A rejection region may replace the p-value sometimes.)
- The general linear model, least-squares estimates,
and hypothesis testing
- ANOVA
- Chi-square tests for categorical data
- Nonparametric statistics: a problem offering you a choice of
nonparametric applications
