Ethnic American Literature, fall 2007 Richard Rodriguez dedicates his autobiography to his parents, writing, For her and for him to honor them. Yet in the chapter Mr. Secrets, he admits, I am writing about those very things my mother has asked me not to reveal. Given this seeming contradiction, do you believe that Rodriguez has, or has not, honored his parents in Hunger of Memory? This essay should be 2-3 full pages, double spaced, paginated, with normal margins and font (Times New Roman, size 12, is standard). Do give your essay a title. Although this essay will probably not require any reading beyond the primary texts, you should document all sources (including the primary texts) in accordance with MLA style.
