Recorded immediately after the death of one of the founding members, Hillel Slovak, Mother's Milk was the band's national breakthrough. After drummer Jack Irons also left, the band hired guitarist John Frusciante and drummer Chad Smith. Along with Flea and Kiedis, these four make up the current Red Hot Chili Peppers. The four had instant chemistry as the album reached #52 nationally. Also, their version of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" gained attention from MTV and it just missed the top 10 on the modern rock chart. in addition, the single "Knock Me Down" made it to #6 on the modern rock chart.
