While it seemed to be going well, the chemistry between the three established members and the new guitarist Dave Navarro. His different musical background made it hard to create an album with the three members that had worked with each other for so long. The band’s next album, One Hot Minute, came out in September 1995. This album got mixed reviews from critics and fans. But, even so, the album was a commercial success, selling five million copies and a number one single in my friends. At this time Kiedis had resumed his dependence on heroin. In 1998 it was announced that Navarro had left the band due to creative differences. Anthony stated to the media that the decision was mutual. Reports at the time, however, indicated Navarro's firing came after he attended a band practice under the influence of drugs, which at one point involved him falling backwards over his own amp.
