After his departure from the band, John Frusciante had developed a very heavy addiction to heroine. It was Flea hat came to rescue him from this dug problem and admitted him into a rehabilitation center in 1998. After his rehabilitation John was convinced to rejoin the band and the Red Hot Chili Peppers were back. On June 8, 1999, after over a year of practice, Californication was released as the band's seventh album. An instant achievement, the album ultimately sold over 15 million copies worldwide and became the band's most successful record. Californication eventually reached number three on the album charts. They began writing By The Way in 2001 and released it in July 2002. This was very successful and emerged at number two on the billboard charts. Recently, the band has produced the Grammy award winning album Stadium Arcadium. This is said to be their greatest CD to date, debuting at number one on the charts. This 28 song double album won the Grammy for best rock album as well as many other Grammys.
