Information and discussions will focus on analysis and discussion of issues related to adolescent health and drug use in America. What is the health status of adolescents? What socio-cultural variables impact the health of teens and the decisions they make? What types of health problems are they experiencing and why? What can families, society, and school do to prevent health and drug-related problems within this population group? What are the roles of teachers and schools in reducing the incidence of adolescent health problems? Emphasis will be on prevention, early identification and intervention, and skill building. This course satisfies the MN Board of Teaching's requirements and competencies for secondary educators. It also promotes understanding and critical thinking about adolescent health problems.
