MCS
118, Calculus with Precalculus Review I
Spring 2008
Suggestions for Studying
Studying for Quiz #6
The next quiz will cover antiderivatives, integrals (both
definite and indefinite), and the first fundamental theorem of
calculus. Inn particular,
you should be able to:
- Find the anti-derivative of a function
- Carefully sketch the graph of a function by using information you
get from the first and second derivatives
- Solve differential equations
- Solve problems involving acceleration, velocity and position
- Understand the connection between areas and definite integrals
- Approximate an area by using sums
- Use the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
You should also be able to
- Do basic algebra
- Factor polynomials
- Use your graphing calculator
- Understand functions
Note that you are allowed to use your calculator . You may also bring a
3x5 card of notes.
The best way to study for this exam is to work problems you haven't
worked before. Some that I would particularly recommend trying
are any of the odd problems in problems 25 -55 and 61-67 of the review
problems in chapter 5 (page 382-384).

- Do the homework every night.
- Go to class, pay attention, and ask questions.
- Read the text sections to be covered before and after class.
- Use office hours and tutors.
