I am changing the assignment, since I did not spend enough time on the self-verifying numbers. If you do the problems on self-verifying numbers, I will give you extra credit, but they are not required.

Remarks on the extra credit:

These three exercises involve the Verifying ID Numbers application. Be sure to test your verifiers with actual numbers from appropriate items (books, items with UPC codes, credit cards). With the exception of the credit-card verifier (Exercise #5.13), please tell me the numbers you used. (Note: I do not want you to tell me credit card numbers, since that is information you should keep private.) Tell me what happens with the numbers you tested, and also what happens when you do the standard errors we discussed in class (single digit errors, transposition of adjacent digits, and jump transposition errors).
