Psychology 345 : Psychophysiology

Lab 1: EMG: Measuring the activity of muscles

Lab 2: EEG: Measuring the activity of the brain

Lab 3: SCR: Measuring the activation of the nervous sytem

Lab 4: HR and Blood Volume: Measuring the activity of the cardiovascular system

Project: Working with one of your colleagues, set up a replication of an existing study that uses psychophysiological measures. This task will have three parts. The first part will be to produce a process to manage data acquisition and facilitate data processing. Your second task will be to write a lab manual that explains as thoroughly a possible how to set up your study. You should:

(1) provide an equipment list
(2) give instructions for setting up the equipment which describes clearly:
(a) how to place and care for any transducers used
(b) how to set up the equipment
(c) how to run the process which collects data
(d) how data is to be stored and retrieved
(e) what instructions to give research participants
(f) what results to expect
(g) how the data should be analyzed
(3) provide diagrams wherever they will clarify your instructions
(4) provide samples of the waveforms which would be obtained from your study
(5) identify problems to avoid and clues to recognizing artifacts in your data

The third task will be to demonstrate your lab and explain its purpose to the rest of the class.
