The main goal of this course is to provide the student with a general overview of the geography of the Spanish language in the Latin-American countries where it is spoken as a first language. In order to do so, various linguistics concepts from the fields of Dialectology and Sociolinguistics in general will be examined. In addition, we will compare and contrast the different dialectal features found within the Spanish-speaking world. The course will be evaluated through exams, group work, homework and individual participation. Lectures, discussions, group activities, and problem-solving exercises will be the main instruction style used in this course.

OBJETIVOS DEL CURSO
 
El principal objetivo del curso es darles una visión general de las diferencias dialectales del español hablado en países de Latinoamérica. Para ello:
  1. revisarán conceptos claves de la Lingüística, la Sociolingüística y la Dialectología;
  2. identificarán las diferentes características dialectales del español hablado en cada uno de los países latinoamericanos;
  3. compararán y contrastarán las diferentes características dialectales identificadas en el español hablado en Latinoamérica;
  4. reconocerán los factores históricos y socio-culturales que han determinado la actual diversidad de la lengua española hablada en los diferentes países de América Latina.
 
 
 
EVALUACIÓN
 
  1. Exámenes Parciales (2): 30%
  2. Examen Final: 20%
  3. Pruebitas: 10%
  4. Primer Proyecto: 10%
  5. Segundo Proyecto: 10%
  6. Trabajo Final: 20%
