MCS-121 - Calculus I
Fall 2001
Skills Test Review
This is a "skills test." It is meant to test your basic skills,
not your ability to solve more complex problems. The emphasis will
be on things like finding equations of linear, exponential, trigonometric
and polynomial functions, shifting, stretching and composing functions,
solving equations using logs, finding domains and ranges, and finding inverses.
There will be at most one "application problem."
General Rules
-
This is an in-class test.
-
No notes, books or calculators are allowed.
-
This test covers 1.1-1.6. Section 1.7 will not be covered.
In addition, you are not responsible for inverse trig functions.
Suggested Exam Study Tactics
-
Look over your old homework assignments and in-class exercises.
-
Do a few of the suggested review problems. Answers are posted outside
your instructor's office. Many of the review problems are more challenging
than the basic skills type of questions that will be on the test.
-
For each type of function covered in Chapter 1, make sure you understand
how to recognize and characterize each type algebraically, numerically
and graphically.
-
Look at the chapter summary on p. 48.
