EDU 268: Orientation to Teaching

3rd Grade

I observed my favorite elementary teacher, Mrs. Olson, at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Elementary for the month of January. I went to her class all day and also went to staff meetings and conferences. I also helped correct papers and worked with many of the students one on one that needed help with their work.

Urban School Visit
|
5th Grade
|
For my Social Foundations class that I had to take before I could apply for the education department we had to visit a inner city school and observe a class for a day. It was a very good and different experience to be in the inner-city class because I came from a small town and a very small school.

Taught Physical Education Classes
|
4th-6th Graders
|
With a partner, we developed a full unit plan on floor and scooter hockey. We taught two of the lessons out of our unit for an hour to about 15 home schooled students. It was a lot of fun to see them able to participate in activities like they really have never had the chance to do before.

NYSP Team Leader

10-13 Years Old

With partner, we were in charge of about twenty kids at the NYSP Camp at GAC. Me and my partner would take them from activity to activity and make sure that they were behaving and that they participated in each activity a full 100%! We would also participate with them and just try and have a lot of fun with the kids...which we did!

Taught Health Lesson Plan
|
5th Grade
|
I had to create a unit plan for my elementary health class and teach one lesson out of it for 45 minutes to a fifth grade class. My unit plan was on reproduction and adolescence and the lesson I taught covered mostly what adolescence and puberty is, and how it affects our bodies. It was a great experience dealing with a classroom by myself because besides for teaching I also had to do classroom managment. Teaching the lesson was a great way to finally see what its like to be in a real classroom with real students and see how they react to my teaching.
