Triathlon
I've been an avid triathlte since 2000 when I did a sprint triathlon for the first time. I now mainly do the half ironman distance ... and perhaps an ironman someday. I am a board member of the Minnesota Triathlon Club. We welcome all levels and abilities. I just did the half ironman Pigman!
Running
I've always been a runner, first and foremost. I'm a member of MDRA, a marathon training program and local running club. Goal: to quality for the Boston marathon at my next marathon. I ran the Hood to Coast relay in August with a team from St. Thomas, my alma mater.
Reading
So many books, so little time! Some of my favorite authors include John Irving, Tom Robbins, Jane Austen, PG Wodehouse, Evelyn Waugh, Ian McEwan, Kurt Vonnegut, and F.Scott Fitzgerald ... to name a few. Lots of Brits in there!
Music & Movies
So much music, so little time to go to all the shows! You need to listen to the Current (89.3 or online) for "Great music lives here." I recommend: Wilco, Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird, The Arcade Fire, Badly Drawn Boy, Bright Eyes, Broken Social Scene, Cold War Kids, The Decemberists, DeVotchKa, Eels, Jesee Malin, M Ward, Neko Case, The Postal Service, Regina Spektor, The Shins, Tegan & Sarah... there's more, but no more room! Wes Anderson is one of my favorite directors. Anything starring Audrey Hepburn is a must see. My favorites are indie movies at the local Landmark Theater. My Nextflix cue is 100 years long...
Travel
I've had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling in the last few years. Banff & Lake Louise (pic on bottom) are a couple of the most beautiful places on earth. I've also taveled to Montreal and Toronto - our neighbor to the north has a lot to offer. I traversed Britain and Europe last summer (in a car - what a way to go!) I taught a Janurary term course in London last January and hope to teach the course again in Jan '09. This past spring break, I traveled with a group of students to Costa Rica for a 10 day non-stop adventure (top two pics).
