Research Interests:

Perception

I am interested in how we perceive the age of a face. One of my current projects investigates how age, gender, and exposure time affects the accuracy and reaction time of age identification.

Attention & Mental Imagery

A previous project melded mental imagery and attention - can we pay attention to different aspects of an image that we hold in our "mind's eye"? Rotating a mental image affecs our ability to pay attention and therefore influences performance on a memory task.

Unconcious processing

A new project will investigate how priming affects the ability of suppressed words (using the binocular rivalry suppression paradigm) to overcome suppression. Will the suppressed words primed by semantically related words overcome suppression faster than non-semantically related words?

Navigation

I am collaborating on a project at the University of Minnesota that is testing a novel navigation system designed to help those with low vision successfully navigate an unfamiliar environment. The navigation aid (Nav Aid) uses Bayesian statistics to help localize and guide. We are currently collecting data on a system prototpye.
