Stonemasons' Cemetery
Barre, Vermont
(Vol. IV, No. 2 -- Fall 2000)
Some years ago, the editorial team made a
pilgrimage to this town, which is home to
several quarries --and, as a result, several
stonemasons. The cemetery in the town is
filled with fantastical gravestones the masons
carve for themselves. They feature everything
from gondolas (many of the carvers are of
Italian heritage) to sofas to sportscars.
Here are just two examples of their wonderful
artistry.
