Chemical Safety

Laboratory Safety Procedures: (LSP) This is the Department of Chemistry's outline of

how to conduct safe research. It also describes the proper response to chemical accidents.

  • Appendix A: 29 CFR 1910.1450 (Occupational Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals in the Laboratory). Federal OSHA regulation from which the LSP was designed.
  • Appendix B: Laboratory Audit Checklist (Available from Scott Bur, Nobel 303b)
  • Appendix C: GAC's Emergency Preparedness Hazardous Materials Contingency Plan.
  • Appendix D: GAC's Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Manual.
  • Appendix E: GAC's Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirement.

Permissible Exposure Limits: (PELs) A Microsoft Exel spreadsheet containing the latest list of permissible exposure to certain chemical agents.

Training

All employees who may be exposed to hazardous materials must receive safety training. The training will be based upon this general safety document and the LSP linked above.
