Homework Guidelines

• Make sure I know what problem you are answering without having to look it up.
• Write your proofs in complete English sentences. Proofread what you have written to make sure it makes sense.
• Hand-drawn diagrams of automata should be rendered nicely. Make sure all labels are readable, and the start and accept states are clearly marked.
• Be sure to leave plenty of space in your writing for comments. If you type your assignment, use double spacing.
• You are encouraged, but not required, to type your homework. However, if you handwrite them, write neatly. I may return your work without grading if it's illegible.
• If you are unable to solve a particular homework problem, it's best to simply write "I don't know." I may then award you with some partial credits for honesty. On the contrary, giving a nonsensical answer that you know to be wrong will gain you a perfect zero.
• Always use the correct, generally accepted mathematical notation. For example, use braces to surround the comma-delimited elements of a set, and use parentheses to surround the the comma-delimited components of an ordered pair or tuple. Don't use parentheses or square brackets when braces are called for, and vice versa.
