2001 Midwest Open Tournament
The Midwest Open is a new tournament with plaques for the winners and finalists, being run together with the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. The Open serves the players who did not qualify for the ITA Regional or who lose in the first round of that tournament.
In singles competition 22 players who did not qualify for the ITA Regional compete for 16 spots in the 32 draw Midwest Open beginning Saturday at 11:30 am. The other 16 spots go ITA Regional first round losers who wi to ITA Regional first round losers who win two rounds of qualifying matches. Two rounds of the Midwest Open singles are played on Saturday and three rounds on Sunday. In doubles competition 8 teams who did not In doubles competition 8 teams who did not qualify for the ITA Regional and 8 teams who lose in the first round and then win two rounds of qualifying matches begin the Midwest Open on Saturday at 4 p.m. Two rounds of the Midwest Open doubles are played on Saturday and two rounds on Sunday. In case of rain on Saturday, Mankato Indoor hosts the Midwest Open matches. On Sunday Midwest Open competition is at Gustavus, rain or shine!
All Midwest singles competition is two sets with a super breaker in place of a third set. In case of rain delays and shine!
All Midwest singles competition is two sets with a super breaker in place of a third set. In case of rain delays an 8 game pro set is used. Doubles matches are 8 game pro sets, rain or shine.
