Calculus,
fourth edition, Hughes-Hallett et. al., John Wiley and Sons
The first topics we will discuss center on techniques and applications of integration. Applications include computing area and volume, finding centers of mass, computing work and pressure, and .determining future and present values. We then explore sequences and series culminating with Taylor series and the approximation of functions using infinite series. We will conclude with an introduction to differential equations and modeling.
We will be covering chapters 7 through 11. Here is the tentative schedule for the semester

Homework assignments will be given daily at the beginning of each class period and will be posted on the Math 122 homework page. Explain your work clearly and concisely in complete sentences when appropriate. Each set is worth 10 points. Homework will usually be collected on Tuesdays and Fridays in class. No late homework is accepted for any reason. The lowest three homework scores will be dropped.
You will be encouraged to use a graphing calculator throughout this course. It is important that you be comfortable using all of its basic graphing features. We encourage the use of Texas Instruments calculators, in particular the TI83/84 Plus, TI83/84 Plus Silver Edition, or the TI89 (though the use of some of its features may be restricted). If you have the standard version of any of these calculators there is no need to purchase a new calculator. If you have another brand of calculator please see me before purchasing a new one as you may be able to continue using it.
In addition to the homework, you will be taking two skills quizzes, two midterm exams, three group projects, and a final exam. The schedule for these is shown in the table below. Additional details about these examinations and projects will be given prior to their assignment. Please note that the dates in the tables below may change.
