Of all techniques I have tried, slip is my personal favorite.
In its simplest form, slip is liquid clay. Of the various ways of preparing it, I prefer to simply take water and clay and blend it to a slurry-like consistency.
Once the basic slip is made I like adding a colorant, either oxide or mason stain. Unfortunately, mason stains are expensive so I don't get to work with them too much, but they really do make a difference.
