Semester Sample Syllabus
  • 14 weeks - meet M,T,Th,F;  52 class days (Take off four days for breaks)
  • Cover Chapters 1, 2, 4, 5.1-5.6, 7(only Poincare model, skip Project 11), 9(some of the first four sections)
  • Lab day works best on Friday
  • Two hour exams (on Chapters 1,2 and 4,5)
  • Mini-Projects are done in the classroom in groups of three
  • Final Project on a topic related to the course
  • No Final Exam

    Week 2: Axiomatic Method (1.4-1.6), Project 2

    Week 3: Basic Euclidean Geometry(2.1-2.2), Mini-Project 2.4.1, Project 3 on Triangles

    Week 4: Measurement and Similarity (2.4-2.5), Mini-Project 2.5.1, Circle Geometry (2.6)

    Week 5: Project 4 on Circle Inversion, Review, Exam on Chapters 1 and 2

    Week 6: Euclidean Constructions (4.1), Project 6,  Constructibility(Briefly, 4.3), Mini-Project 4.4 on Origami

    Week 7: Isometries, Reflections, Translations (5.1-5.3), Mini-Project on Isometries

    Fall Break

    Week 8: Rotations (5.4), Glide Reflections (5.6),
    Discussion of Final Projects, Choose Topics

    Week 13: Triangles in Hyperbolic Geometry (7.5.2), Area in Hyperbolic Geometry (7.6), Fractals and Self-Similarity (9.1-9.2), Draft of Final Project Due

    Thanksgiving Break

    Week 14: Similarity Dimension (9.3), Project 13 on Koch Snowflake Curve (no lab report due), [If time, go back and do section 3.2 and Project 5]

    Week 15: Work on Final Project,  Final Presentations

    Final  Exam Day - Finish Presentations
