Gary Williams 1976-1980

Gary Williams traveled from Rosemount, Minnesota to Gustavus in 1976 and started a four year career at the center and long snapper position.  Gary was a part of a successful run for the Gusties finishing with a 26 and 14 record.  The offense through these four years set rushing and scoring records that still stand today.  In 1979, Gary’s senior year, he received All Conference honors as a center.  That same year Gary was also named an Academic All American for his success as a student athlete. 

Jay Schoenebeck- 1976-1980

Jay Schoenebeck traveled from Green Bay, Wisconsin to Gustavus in 1976 and started an illustrious career as a four year starter at running back.  At the end of his football career Jay had amassed 3539 yards of offense.  He also holds the Gustavus record for touchdowns scored and total points with 37 touchdowns resulting in 224 points.  Having a 26 and 14 record at the end of his career shows his overall success as a football player at Gustavus.  In 1979, Jay’s senior year, he received All Conference honors.  That same year, Jay was also named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ second team as a running back.

In 1994 Jay became the head coach of the Gustavus football team and started what was to be a 15 year career at that position.  Gathering a 74 and 76 record at head coach over his tenure, Jay had a successful career.
