Hollingsworth Field

Lloyd Hollingsworth can be seen as one of the greatest MIAC football coaches of all time. Hollingsworth coached at his alma mater, Gustavus Adolphus College from years of 1942 to 1978. Due to his military background, Hollingsworth was forced to stop coaching for a couple periods of time because of World War II and the Korean War. During his 15 years of coaching Gustavus Football, Hollingsworth collected 94 wins while only suffering 33 losses and 5 ties. He also won the MIAC championship with his teams 8 different times, 5 of which were all in succession. Winning 5 MIAC championships in a row broke the previous record of 3. Coach Hollingsworth also found the time in his career to coach other sports at Gustavus including hockey, baseball, tennis, basketball, and gymnastics. Later in Hollingsworth’s career he gave up his coaching duties to become the Athletic Director and a department chair at Gustavus. During his time attending Gustavus as a student, Hollingsworth was a successful multi sport athlete collecting 11 letters in football, baseball, and gymnastics. He graduated in 1936 and later attended the University of Minnesota to achieve his Masters and New York University for his doctorate.
