Future Construction
New Academic Building
Gustavus Adolphus anticipates constructing a new academic building in the Spring of 2010.  The building was designed by BWBR Architects.  The college went with a familiar architect but looked at seven different firms.  The new academic structure will be the first LEED (Leadership for energy and environmental design)  building on campus. LEED buildings have many sustainable attributes to offer including energy conservation, materials and resources, and water efficiency.  LEED Buildings are fairly new and have become increasingly popular.  The building will take the place of the old Hollingsworth Field. The academic edifice will house five different departments including History, Economics and Management, Psychology, Anthropology and Sociology, and Communication Studies.  It was designed with an inward focus to create a greater sense of community. The structure will have a three story atrium used for study purposes. The Gustavus community can anticipate the use of their new academic building by Fall 2011.
Future at Gustavus
Gustavus Adolphus College is constantly updating and building new establishments on campus. In the future the Gustavus community will be constructing a new academic building and remodeling many structures on campus.  These costly projects take a lot of planning and decision making.

After the New Academic Building-
    Anderson Social Science Center
Being that SSC was designed as a library it does not fit the credentials of an academic building. When the new library was built Gustavus lacked the funding to remodel the Anderson Social Science Center. Much of the college was built from stone and SSC is one of those three buildings which is why the college wants to remodel SSC rather than demolish it in order to maintain its history. Gustavus hopes to make the building easier to navigate and add an addition on the south end. The remodeled SSC will possibly house the nursing, education, geology, and/or administrative departments.
