Technology

Technology in Europe in the 19th Century advanced by leaps and bounds. The Industrial revolution was in full force during the early part of the 19th century, and many technological advances were made. Raw materials like iron, steel, and coal gave Europeans the means to progress onto other, more complex, modes of technological production. Industrial materials made industrial production possible. Textile mills, and other factories like them, were fueled by these new technologies. Steam engines gave rise to faster forms of transportation, such as railroad engines to move quickly over the land, steamships to sail against the currents and the winds, and even personal cars to move quickly within and between cities. These technological advances made the 19th century possible. Whether it was faster communication such as was provided by telegraph cables, faster transportation from trains and steamships, or better commercial goods from the textile mills, technology was working to improve the lives of Europeans in the 19th Century.
