Text
Vector Calculus, fourth edition, Marsden and Tromba, W. H.
Freeman and Company.
Objective
In this course we will generalize the Calculus concepts taught in MCS 121
and 122 to higher dimensions. In particular, we will discuss partial
derivatives and their use in optimizing functions of two or more variable.
We will discuss double and triple integrals and their use in computing
areas and volumes. Path integrals will be discussed along with applications
such as work. We will conclude with the classic theorems of Green
and Stokes that relate these latter two concepts.
Chapters Covered
We will be covering chapters 1 through 8. Here is the tentative
schedule for the semester.
