Anderson Social Science Center

Year Built: 1948
Purpose: Previous Library, Academic Building

Arthur H. Anderson Social Science Center was originally built in 1948 as the library.  More information about the original library can be found under the Folke Bernadotte Library page.  Thirty years later, Arthur H. Anderson, a retired businessman from St. Cloud, donated $425,000 to the Gustavus Adolphus College.  This donation came after a new library was built, and allowed the college to remodel the old library and rename it the Arthur H. Anderson Social Science Center on October 17th, 1976.  The remodel changed the old stacks of the library into professor’s offices.  Now the building includes professor’s offices, classrooms and computer labs.  This building houses the Economics/Management Department, HIstory Department, Sociology/Anthropology Department, and Psychology Department.  Upon the completion of the new academic building to be finished in Fall 2011, the Social Science Center will be remodeled.  To learn more about this remodeling, look into the future plans at Gustavus.
